Gender Safeguarding Project
When human rights remediation puts vulnerable individuals at risk, our team steps in to provide a comprehensive gender safeguarding framework rooted in empowerment and protection. We act as a specialized consultant for women survivors, conducting risk assessments and trauma informed healing sessions to facilitate a safe path to social restoration. Our work goes beyond immediate support, offering financial literacy and family reconciliation services to ensure survivors can securely meet their goals, such as land acquisition and home ownership. By providing close monitoring against existing and anticipated gender-based abuse, we transform the remediation process into a holistic journey of lasting dignity.
Background
Patterns of gender-based violence and exclusion from decision-making had emerged in communities surrounding mining operations in Geita Region.
Approach
We designed a leadership and rights-awareness programme delivered to cohorts of women, paired with the establishment of community committees with mandatory women's representation.
Outcome
Three cohorts completed the programme. Women now sit on every operating community committee, and grievance reporting has tripled — a sign of restored confidence in being heard.
