Description
Introduction:
UTU JAMII's involvement in the Fungoni Mineral Sands Project
showcases our diverse expertise and commitment to social responsibility. We
played a vital role in navigating complex community relations, ensuring
grievances were addressed, and stakeholder engagement remained open and
constructive.
Grievance Management:
- System
Establishment: We designed and implemented a comprehensive grievance
management system (A-E forms) for
recording, investigating, proposing resolutions, and
documenting outcomes. This facilitated transparent and fair grievance
redressal.
- Community
Committee: We facilitated the establishment of a grievance committee
to manage complex issues and hear grievances directly from affected
parties.
- Resolution
Success: With effective communication and mediation, we achieved
an impressive 106 out of 122 grievances successfully resolved within a
mere 3 months.
Stakeholder Engagement and Communication:
- Building
Trust: Following initial community unrest, we prioritized
regular engagement and communication through various
channels, including a dedicated WhatsApp group. This provided
timely information and prevented misinformation from escalating tensions.
- Compensation
Process Support: We actively guided PAPs through the compensation
process, clarified doubts, and facilitated signing of
Compensation Agreements, ensuring everyone received their due.
Vulnerable Groups and Grave Relocation:
- Identification
and Support: We meticulously identified and verified all vulnerable
PAPs, understanding their specific needs and developing tailored
support plans to address them.
- Compassionate
Grave Relocation: We planned and executed the sensitive process of
grave relocation, consulting with community
leaders, families, and public health officials. This
involved budgeting, equipment acquisition, and respectful
communication with custodians of the graves.
Facilitator & Trainer:
Beyond the Fungoni project, UTU JAMII's expertise extends to
training and capacity building. Our diverse portfolio includes:
- NPA-VAWC
Committees Training: We developed and delivered training manuals and
sessions on VAWC committee formation and SGBV response for 11 villages
surrounding the Mwadui mining area.
- Animators
Training: We equipped animators from nearby villages with animation
skills to effectively communicate social issues through this engaging
medium.
- Gender
and Transformative Feminism Training: We facilitated training on
gender, women's participation, and transformative feminism for
various organizations.
- Gender-Based
Violence Training: We delivered training on GBV and sextortion to
marginalized women's groups, enhancing their awareness and response
capabilities.
- Focused
Group Discussion Training: We trained research teams on conducting
focused group discussions for a study on Alternative Dispute Resolution.
- Women's
Leadership Training: We trained women councilors and aspirants on
GBV, women's representation, and effective governance.
